I have a 1725 Alpine with a Hillman Minx engine. I see from the workshop manual that there is a small ball and spring on the out side of the connector that is screwed into the block into which the capillary tube fits that feeds oil to the timing chain. Upon stripping my engine I found no ball and no spring but there is a tiny ball inside the connector where oil enters it from the pressurised chamber. Can anyone explain this to me please? What should I have.
